Early Years Learning
"To be happy: to play, to learn, to share, to care and to be ourselves"
The most important aspect of the school is that the children are happy. We feel that it is extremely important for children to enjoy their first experience of school life and that they are prepared for what comes next. By nurturing inquisitive minds and fostering a love of learning the children are encouraged and supported as they develop key skills that prepare them for the next stage of their developmental journey. We teach lifelong learning behaviours: kindness, collaboration, independence and personal discovery and we aim for high standards, excellence and good manners. All children are given stimulating resources and the time to learn. The Willcocks Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage; this is the statutory curriculum for all children between birth and five years old.
Your child will be learning skills, acquiring knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through the seven areas of learning and development.
The prime areas are:
- Personal social and emotional development
- Physical development
- Communication and language
These areas will help your child to develop skills in the four specific areas:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
“The educational programme is outstanding. Children actively participate in activities that relate to all areas of learning. Topic themes include outings in the local community and visitors to the nursery. This enables children to gain first hand experiences that effectively consolidate their learning” - Ofsted
